A Twisted Adventure The Epic of Gilgamesh was an epic to be told and heard or read by everybody. Though most of the concept of the epic is heroic but let’s not forget the journey it took for Gilgamesh to be daubed a hero. Reading the Odyssey, it is clear to see the similarities with Gilgamesh. Both epics show a great case of immortality and fate. We all know the anger and desperation that we face when we lose someone very close to us; that was exactly what happened in the Epic of Gilgamesh. Gilgamesh went searching for immortality after a close friend has fallen. He went through tremendous journey to make himself immoral. It’s embarrassing to go home without a catch”, Joe proposed. Traditionally we would not go home unless we had a catch. Akin, the eldest amongst us, quickly reproached the idea, knowing the daunting stories told about the extremely dangerous nature of the “sacred” forest. Isaac agreed with Akin but Bob however, sided with Joe. I was left between the two groups with divided feelings not knowing which one to side with. Joe, my trusted friend since childhood, always teased me of being a coward and questioned my bravery anytime I tried to show how “tough” I was. But, as much as I wanted to prove my bravery and obedience, my instincts did not allow me to. I feared that Joe will once again call me a chicken if I did not go with them but I also feared that Akin will tell my parents that I went into the perilous forest if I decided not to go with him. I felt that I had betrayed my best friend if I did not go with Joe. After further deliberations over these, I finally decided to on the dangerous adventure. The “sacred” forest was one of the forbidden places in our town. People were known to go in and never come back out or when someone survives the forest, he or she is then incapable of being one of us again. To be quite frank, I never believed the stories that were told by the elderly or my parents. My friends and I were always told not to enter or go near the forest and being teenagers, when told not to do something that is when you get the urgency to want to do the forbidden
