“A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings” Even if someone is from an outside world, they should be treated the same as everyone else. In the story A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, a family thinks that the coming of the angel is a pain. At first they think that the angel is sent by the devil so they lock him up in the chicken coop, but the next day their sick child wakes up fresh and healthy. Later many people come to see the angel, he is hurt and used by the people. Finally, the family itself treats the angel badly even after he helped them so much. The people think the coming of the man is not good. They do not really appreciate that he is with them. Many people from around the world come to see him, because they think he will cure their issues. “The most unfortunate invalids on earth came in search of health” (2). Many people show up and all of them are really rude to the man, they start throwing food at him. They also throw stones at an attempt to make him stand up. When he does not get up, they burn him with “an iron for branding steers” (3). Some people that want to cure their diseases pull feathers from him to touch their defective parts with. All these people hurt the man so much. Even when they do this, he remains calm, he does not do anything to the people. The family even use him as a way to make money. There are so many people in the courtyard and more were coming. “Courtyard had a bustle of a marketplace” (2). Elisenda is tired of cleaning up the trash that the people have brought and left in the courtyard so she bursts with an idea. “Fencing in the yard and charging five cents admission to see the angel” (2).
