In school ball it’s mostly just fun and games but if “the games” have a more important meaning, than a higher level of basketball is something to think about. For a more competitive atmosphere, AAU basketball would be the way to go rather than school ball because of the players, overall atmosphere, and the practices.
When assigned to defend one specific player I know that it’s one of the more important and better girls on the team. But how does coach know who for me to guard before the games even start? Simple. The teams we play in school are ones we’ve seen before and coach knows who the players are that carry the whole team. In AAU though, the only time coach gets to really see the other teams is during warm ups. So before the game he has to make a decision on who he thinks are the strongest players but since it’s a team of advanced players, it’s all of them. When playing school basketball you know what to expect from the players but in AAU it’s always a surprise when you find out who is the best on the team.

I always got nervous and jittery before those games because it was going to be good competition. The parents always seemed to be very serious about their kids playing and had high expectations for them. When it came to school games though, just walking into the gym it seemed to be a calm place and it was something I was used to. The calmness definitely helped with the jitters so playing there rather than in Indiana made it more easygoing. The parents all still cheer but it’s more of a supportive cheer because they knew their kids were out there doing their best and having fun. Either way the parents still play a big parent in the atmosphere because
