Abbe Pierre a French hero Abbe Pierre was a hero to the French people. He started a homeless movement in france, his original name was Henri Grouès but changed it later on in his life. Throughout Pierre’s life he always was a religious person and focused on the other people in his life. Pierre is important to the world because of his willingness and kindness has touched the people of France and the countries around them. Because of Abbe pierre’s loving and kindness personality, the people of France have survived and lived better lives. In 1954 “he went on the radio talking about a woman freezing to death and asked for people to bring supplize and in three hours they need 500 blankets, 300 large tents, 200 stoves” (Lichfield 2). This quote shows that he goes out of his way amd is not embarrassed to openly speak to the public about the homeless. Abbe pierre “inspired the creation of a network of restaurants de coeur which means good quality soup” (Lichfield 3). This shows how Abbe Pierre managed to start a food program for the homeless but also make it good quality not just cheap unhealthy food. “The emmaus movement is present in forty one countries which seek to inspire whitch seek the poor and the rich to succour one another” (Lichfield 2). This shows that his movement has gone far and been successful in helping the poor and homeless around France and europe. This is important because it shows that he will risk his own life for other people of other religions, and means that we don't have to separated based on our religion. Abbe pierre “smuggled many Jewish families and others under threat over the mountains into Switzerland” (Corley 2). He risked his own life to save other people with different religious views as him. He “Joined the resistance under the assumed name Abbe Pierre” (Corley 2). He changed his name when he went into the restenstance and went with it for the rest of his life. “He was arrested and escaped and finally made his way to join De Gaulle’s free French in Algeria” (Lichfield 2). This shows that even he gets caught he is still determined to do the right thing and help people even at risk of his own life.
