Abraham was just like any other person of his time. He was a sinner like the rest of them and fell short of the glory of God. As much as he endeavored, he could not possibly be a non-sinning man. Abraham’s story commences in the little city of Ur. This distinct city was established in Mesopotamia in Babylonia. There were tons of wandering clans in this civilization, but each was in the vicinity of the urban areas of the town. When his mother delivered him, he had received the title Abram that would eventually be changed to Abraham. He was the son of a man named Terach who cared for Abraham. Regrettably, the people of Abraham’s town were idol worshipers. This means that instead of glorifying the one true God, they glorified the gods that they fabricated. Abraham genuinely did not respect this and thought it was erroneous which is what everyone in his or her proper mind should accept. He needed not only physical strength but also mental strength. Abraham had to be sturdy in knowing God was in control. He had to have strength in order to face the devil that would try to persuade him day in, day out. Abraham had to have the strength to face the Pharaoh of Egypt when he had to negotiate for his wife as well as his own life. He had to have the strength to do the righteous thing no mater what circumstance he was in. As a leader, he had to be in an upright mindset, because the rest of the journey hung on his it. He could not bear the expense of leading his wife and Lot’s family astray. Abraham had to be the matchless and steadfast example for the rest of his followers.
