The United States has had many presidents in the course of its time. Forty five to be exact. However, there is one man among many that stands out: President Abraham Lincoln. From the time he took office to the time he was murdered, he was loved by all and was a leader like no other. The assassination of Abraham Lincoln was one that broke the hearts of millions. It is to no surprise that he is still one of the most known and admired presidents that the United States has had. It is also no surprise that there have been many books published about this memorable president. Although, there is one book that stands out in particular: Killing Lincoln: The Shocking Assassination that Changed America Forever by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard.

It starts on March 4, 1865 and goes day by day until July 7, 1865. It details the events of every day as they go by. The authors also put it in chronological order by counting down the days until Lincoln’s death. The prologue begins with Lincoln having 6weeks to live and each chapter about President Lincoln continues to count down Lincoln’s days until April 14. Once the reader begins the book, they follow the life of President Lincoln, the final days of the war, and the life of John Wilkes Booth’s as they unfold just weeks before the assassination takes place. It is very well written and one of the most entertaining history books. Among its many chapters, characters, and historically accurate events, is a story any person could get addicted to. Its only true flaw is whether or not the authors are a reliable source when it comes to the events that take place. It is recommended to give a read if a person is into historical events. A book following the life of one of America’s most beloved presidents in his final days is something everyone should
