Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States. He was born on February 12, 1809, in Kentucky Hodgenville, and he grew up in Kentucky and Indiana. He was the second child of Thomas and Nancy Lincoln, and he was a father of four, Robert, Edward, Tad, and Willie Lincoln, with his wife Mary Todd Lincoln. Abraham bought a small general store with his partner at the age of 23 in 1832 at New Salem, Illinois. Even though the economy wasn 't going through rough times, Lincoln was struggling where he sold the store. He then began his political career in March. Although he had the power to obtain local popularity and could draw crowds of people, he lost his first campaign due to lack of education, powerful friends, and money. Later on Lincoln served as a captain of Illinois in the Black Hawk War, and he continued running in his campaign for the president election in August 6. On November 6th, 1860, he was elected as the 16th president of the United States, beating his opponents: Douglas, Breckinridge, and John Bell. He won due to his strength of his support from the North and West, which Lincoln achieved over 1,800,000 votes, and he also stopped slavery. During his second time being president, John Booth sneaked into the presidential booth at Ford 's Theatre, John shot Abraham and escaped , but eventually got executed by Corbett on April 26 after not surrendering to the Union
