James L. Swanson Chasing Lincoln’s Killer 2009 Chasing Lincoln’s Killer is a book about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, a past United States of America president. The introduction of the book is how John Wilkes Booth, Lincoln’s killer, and his accomplices, made a plan to kidnap the American president, but their plan failed. So, John Wilkes Booth and his little gang decide to kill the President, the Vice President, and the Secretary of State in one night. John Wilkes Booth would kill the president at Ford’s theater, His accomplice George Atzerodt would kill the Vice President at the Vice President’s hotel room. Lewis Powell and David Herold would kill the Secretary of State.
Chapter 1 of Chasing Lincoln’s Killer by James L. Swanson is about the assassination plan of Abraham Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth. This assassination plan had strengths and weaknesses. John Wilkes Booth was a twenty-six year old actor who was a strong, loyal, and passionate confederate. Booth and his conspirators had a mission to take down some of the top leaders of the United States of America - the President Abraham Lincoln, Vice President Johnson, and U.S Secretary of State William Seward. In assessing this plan, which is similar to any other assassination plan, it includes good and bad situations with conspirators, location/time, and also weapons.
On November 22, 1963 time froze when the beloved John F. Kennedy was tragically taken from this world. We will be looking at two accounts of the assassination, the first will be the official account AKA, the Warren commission 's report. The second will be from Doug Horne and his 5 volume work with the Assassination Records Review Board. After we have looked at the two accounts I will then tell you what I believe happened.
The video "Conspiracy Theories ; The Lincoln Assassination" discussed the three theories that John Wilkes Booth either worked with the President of the Confederacy Jefferson Davis to kill Lincoln, the leader of the Confederate Secret Service in Montreal, or the Confederate Government. Based on Booth’s motives, diary entries, and plans, he most likely worked by himself to create the elaborate plot to foil the new victory of the Union. In all three theories, Booth was told to kill the president, which would go against his unhealthy form of southern patriotism. In Booth’s last journey entry before he died, he thought he had done nothing wrong and brought justice to the South by saying, “God cannot pardon me if I have done wrong; yet I cannot see any wrong, except in serving a degenerate people. The little, the very little, I left behind to clear my name, the Government will not allow to be printed.
“Coward, filthy coward” is what people called a man by the name of George Atzerodt. There is no doubt that George Atzerodt changed history greatly. He was amongst the group of assassins who planned to murder President Abraham Lincoln after the civil war was won. In what way did George Atzerodt play an important role in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln? George Atzerodt was born on June 12, 1835 in Anrode Germany.
The President was assassinated in Springfield Illinois, so his body had to be transported, via train back to Washington DC, where his funeral would take place. According to Edward Steers Jr, the author of Blood on the Moon, a biography and explanation of Lincolns assassination, that on route to Washington D.C. “the train traveled 1,664 miles and made scheduled funeral stops in eleven cities” (Steers 278). The funeral procession was one like nobody had ever seen before.

He starred in many different shows that people, such as the president, would attend. After the Civil War the Union supporters from the North celebrated day and night. The people were excited that they had won the war, except John Wilkes Booth.
On April 14,1865, a man named John Wilkes Booth assassinated President Abraham Lincoln. While he was he was watching Our American Cousin at Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C. However, in his original plan assassination was never involved. Despite the fact that he was a successful actor, he was a confederate sympathizer during the Civil War. He had conspired to kidnap Lincoln and hide him until all Confederate prisoners were released.
The leader of an entire nation and its military forces needs to have a certain intuition and connection with its country. Without this, the leader would seem more like a ruler, which is why electing a president is a more appealing choice to most Americans. His death was unjust because he created the Emancipation Proclamation and he lead the Union to victory in the Civil war; however, some people thought he split the country apart. Abraham Lincoln’s death was unjust because he made the Emancipation Proclamation.
Presidents are elected to preform and achieve greatness in America; they serve as the commander and chief of armed forces, and they find ways in coming up with agreements regarding trade and aid along with many other things. Bradford debating if Abraham Lincoln was America’s Greatest President. Many people agreed and disagreed whether or not President Lincoln was the greatest; however the sides of two professors were part in the Taking Sides issue of yes or no.
John Wilkes Booth, the assassin of the sixteenth president, Abraham Lincoln, shortened his life drastically by shooting the president. Thus, bringing upon himself an early death, but by doing this he also left a lasting legacy. John Wilkes Booth was the man who shot President Lincoln, he put up a good chase until the officials found him and he was shot. People do not often think of this man’s capture, but of what he did, shooting a president.
As Booth began his bold escape, the fate of Abraham Lincoln was unknown. According to “Abraham,” Charles Leale heard the pistol fire and Mary’s scream, so the twenty-three year old doctor sprinted towards the wounded President . When Leale reached Lincoln, the young doctor saw the physical condition of the President. “He found the president slumped in his chair, paralyzed and struggling to breath” (History.com). “Assassination” states that the doctor reacted quickly by ripping the President’s shirt open for a physical examination, but Leale could not find the bullet wound.
Over hundreds of years America has had many presidents, some able to complete the tasks at hand, but many were not worthy of leading this nation. President Abraham Lincoln was one of the few who led the United States of America with great strength and courage. Abraham Lincoln was the best U.S. president because he had a great impact on ending slavery and he was one of the greatest natural strategists and leaders of all time. Abraham Lincoln is considered to be America 's wisest president. Abraham Lincoln, "proved to be a shrewd military strategist and a savvy leader during what became the costliest conflict ever fought on American soil."
