“Absolute power corrupts absolutely” - Lord Acton , this quote is especially true back in medieval times and before. With this quote this question comes up, does power have a negative or positive effect on others? To that, I say yes. Before I do start explaining why power has a positive effect I will admit that power can also bring a negative effects as well such as King Creon in play Antigone. Antigone at the time it was written was meant to represent the current time of the ancient greece. So back to King Creon, he did abuse his power and prevented people burying Polyneices, sure he wasn't on your side but he was a family member and how much of a dirt bag do you have to be not to bury a family member? But he was the King and those were the rules, but every time there are rules, there is a troublemaker and that happens to Polyneices sister (Antigone) Attempted to bury him, but didn't get that far in the process, but it's better than nothing. People may look at Genghis Khan as someone who abused power but I think other wise. Sure he did killed 40 million people, could he have in a less violent manner? Yes, but some of things he has accomplished with his power sorta makes up for it, well most of it at least. The good things he has done is such as uniting the mongol clans and at that time the mongols were always at war. Khan has also cleaned up the silk road which allowed for merchants and traders to flourish again. One of the main reasons why Khan had a high kill count was because he was conquering so much land but when there was invasion he gave them a chance to surrender and those who did surrender were put into good use and were not simply killed off like what other rulers did at the time, and for those unfortunate who did not surrender knew what was coming to
