Emma Elliott, a writer for the Concerned Women for America organization, compiled a pamphlet in 2005 in support of an abstinence-only based sexual education system. Elliott establishes her argument in a unique countering organization. She presents a popular claim about sexual education and then refutes it with a reason supporting abstinence. In general, she includes eight mainstream beliefs. The first one is rather general where she refutes that “Abstinence education doesn't work”, and she continues to say that is does and backs up her argument with multiple studies, such as the program “Best Friends” caused 80% less possibility of sexual activity.
It is also important that we provide accurate and proven sexual classes to our students. More than 80% of Americans believe that a form of sexual education should be taught in schools.5 The majority of these people believe that this education should be focused on various forms of birth control. Currently the federal government provides funds for these evidence-based types of education through the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Initiative and the Personal Responsibility Education Program. I will support programs that seek to expand funding for programs that teach a variety of birth control methods
Goal 1: Justice will improve his interpersonal functioning and work toward abstinence. • Justice was observed playing the video game when the QP arrived for the session. • Justice reported he smokes “6 or 7 cigarettes per day.” • Justice listened as the QP shared research indicates the ages between 12–25 is a critical time of brain development; therefore, it is essential to protect it from alcohol and drugs during his crucial writing period because important connections are being made that link brain areas together, helping us become smarter and make better decisions. • Justice viewed his drug screening results since he has started treatment and observed where he has been decreasing his marijuana use each week.
The irony I usually witness is that those against it, square measure the everyday obsessional bodybuilders that may claim "your killing your gains" not consumption, solely to induce up within the morning Associate in Nursingd do an hours fasted cardio to "target fat". So is Intermittent abstinence extremely dangerous for you? can you lose your gains? Or will it 's used as another tool to succeed in your goals? I am not for Intermitent abstinence, or against it, square measure there times that you simply may use it?âEUR¦YESâEUR¦are there times it mustn 't be usedâEUR¦by this I mean, square measure there times that it not best to use itâEUR¦YES.
Abstinence is an extreme way of preventing sexual consequences. It’s easy for an adult to tell a teen to abstain from sex but that teen has outside factors trying to convince them to go against such teachings and they eventually engage in a sexual act unprotected because they were taught to abstain and not protect, leading to either a disease or pregnancy. As the old saying goes “Curiosity killed the cat.” So instead of Texas’ teens learning the hard way of their actions and potentially making a dire mistake, why not teach them to be safe with their actions, it makes more sense and holds more positive results. Teens nowadays are more progressive thinking than the generations before us.
I find that just preaching abstinence, as the only way to go is not effective sexual education. It’s key that we teach about birth control and Sexually Transmitted Infections as our society is becoming more sexually active so it’s important that they learn how to have safe sex. Planned Parenthood encourages its patients to make informed decisions and provide an environment where they feel comfortable to ask any questions. If people don’t practice safe sex, they are at risk of getting a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STIs).
A Modest Inquiry in Regards to Single-sex Education At first glance, single-sex schools are something held in memory and schrowded with a romantic veil of history. The very idea of an all boys or all girls school (to me at least) paints a picture of elite students clad in school appropriated uniforms, carrying their leather hard-back books from class to class in a large, beautifully aged neo-gothic building. No doubt my first impressions of such schools has something to do with British-inspired classicism. Putting the artistic images aside, my general perception of single-sex schools no doubt falls into the stereotypical expectation of snobbish students with impressive academic results (possibly a form of religious association as well).
Abstinence-only educators seem to believe that if they shame and scare their students enough about sex, there will be less desire to do it. The issue with this is that the students will not be too scared to have sex, they will instead be too afraid to talk to their doctors and get protection. Going to the store to pick up condoms or making an appointment to get birth control is intimidating, and when young adults are told that they should feel ashamed about doing so, they will be less likely to go through with making those commitments, leaving them unprepared when they do choose to have sex. Unsurprisingly, teen pregnancies are significantly higher in states with abstinence-only
The government spends over $170 million each year in subsidies and federally funds for abstinence only sex education programs across the nation (Beh and Diamond). There are three main groups that contribute financially to abstinence programs in America (CITE THIS). The first being the Adolescent Family Life Act (AFLA) of 1981, which was founded in opposition to the Title X Family Planning Program which provides contraception for low income families. The AFLA is the smallest monetary contributor, but is attributed with providing the ground work for abstinence programs at a federal level. Title V came about in 1996 as a stricter version of AFLA.
Christianity runs deeply throughout the veins of America’s oldest traditions, whether Americans themselves realize it or not. Christianity can be seen in courtship and the wedding ceremony, but one of the more obscure traditions that Christianity had a say in is childbirth. It was said long ago, menstruation, pregnancy and the pain of childbirth are the punishment for Eve’s Original Sin. Modernly, this explanation is not so much as established as it was before. Now, pregnancy is looked upon as a beautiful and magical thing.
According to Debra J. Saunders, the San Francisco Unified School Districts Board is tempted to expand the condom availability from high school students to middle school students. “It is not going to be like Mardi Gras”, says Kevin Gogin. I will explain that exact phrase more into my rebuttal. My opinion, I do not agree with the expansion of condom availability. I believe that would increase the urges for sexual intercourse, but at the same time, it would stop it.
In the novel Brave New World, author Aldous Huxley links sexual promiscuity and happiness by utilizing diction and imagery, proving that the only link sexual promiscuity has towards happiness is that it promotes a false sense of happiness. In the “New World Society”, where the main characters Lenina and Bernard Marx are from, everything is controlled and created to fit the social ecosystem of their “perfect” society. Even the people are created, from vials. Not born or produced.
In their aim to reduce teen pregnancy and STIs, abstinence only programs withhold valuable information regarding contraceptives and birth control. It is their belief that abstinence before marriage is the only foolproof way to prevent unwanted pregnancies and STIs. However, up to 95% of Americans have had sexual relationships before marriage and the average age is usually 17, but children and marriage do not come into play til their mid to late 20s( Finer LB, Public Health Reports). They are especially at high risk during this time period if proper information is not provided for them. Sexual activity outside of marriage is condemned and considered shameful instead of addressing the needs of
