Abuela Invents the Zero As the classic quote by Bo Bennett goes "never expect people to treat you any better than you treat them". If you treat someone bad and they reciprocate your acts, of course you were going to get hurt. But all leads back to the main point of treat others we want to be treated. In the fiction story "Abuela Invents the Zero" by Judith Cofer Ortiz, Constancia treats her Grandmother horridly and her Grandmother reciprocates the bad vibes which results on both of them feeling sad. On the other hand, if Constancia treated her Grandmother the way she wanted to be treated then none of the conflict would have even taken place. A key detail in the story, is after Constancia leaves her Grandmother lost, on the way home her Grandmother gets so angered that she "doesn't speak to [her]... [or let her] help her walk" (Ortiz 7). This shows that the Grandmother is so angered that she will put herself in danger of falling from not having help. Moreover, the Grandmother was so hurt from they way Constancia treated her that she would put herself in danger to revolt or show her anger. Another key detail, is when Abuela tells Constancia "you made me feel like a zero, like a nothing" (Ortiz 7) after the whole incident took place. This quote exemplifies that Constancia was treating her Grandmother so bad that her Grandmother compares her acts to her as if she was a zero. Furthermore, if Constancia treated her grandmother they way she wanted to be treated, instead of treating her like a zero, she would have avoided conflict. Thus, along with how the grandmother feels about Constancia acts, the key details show valid evidence that if you treat others the way you want to be treated more conflict will be avoided and less people will get
