1984 is a fictional novel written by George Orwell in 1949. In the novel, Orwell was trying to produce the negative utopia story line of a controlling government. In the novel the government has a special name. That name was Big Brother. It’s a name that everyone would respect that name was Big Brother, and everyone respects his or her big brother if they have one. Big Brother was a very manipulative and controlling organization. One of the ways Big Brother manipulated people was by torture. If you knew something from the past that they had erased and that they didn’t want you to know, Big Brother would torture you and change the way your brain remembers things. He would convince you of what they would allow you to know. To make sure you were doing exactly what they wanted you to do he would monitor you. Big Brother wants you to do the same routine they give you every day. You had to have a telescreen in every room so they could watch and make sure you were doing exactly what they told you to do. In the novel 1984, Winston’s job as a newspaper editor was to erase the people that Big Brother told him to erase. Winston has had to erase event where rebellious people started riots and crazy things like that. He has also had to erase people from the history time line so that they are now forgotten. Big Brother also had people who would tweak the truth of a story and shift the blame. Rebels would try to save people or start a change and then something or (someone) would get hurt or injured.
