Safe Haven was produced by Ryan Kavanaugh, Marty Bowen, and Wyck Godfrey, and it was directed by Lasse Hallström. This film dealt with physical and verbal abuse in a relationship. It showed how it affects a person’s mental state, and how hard it is to move on with your life. The definition of an abusive relationship is a pattern of abusive and coercive behaviors used to maintain power and control over a former or current intimate partner. Abuse can be emotional, financial, sexual or physical and can include threats, isolation, and intimidation. Signs of abusive relationships are possessiveness, jealousy, put-downs, and threats. It took her a long time to finally get the courage to run, and move to a different town. She knew the police wouldn’t help her because her husband was the police, so Katie got her next door neighbor, a sweet old lady, to help her escape. She changed her hair and got on a bus. She finally got off the bus close to the coast of North Carolina. There she met Alex and his kids. It took a while, but eventually Alex gained Katie’s trust, and they became a family. Katie’s ex husband never stopped hunting for her, and he eventually found her. He tried to kill her this time, but she finally had the guts to fight him. By the end of the movie Katie didn’t have to worry about him anymore. Safe Haven mainly shows Katie’s point of view throughout the movie. It showed her struggle to get away, and her struggle to rebuild a new and better life. It could have also been viewed in the perspective of the ex husband who was the abuser. It would be interesting to know what was running through his head while he is abusing her, and then tracking her down. Was he in a normal mental state or not? He was a drunk, so was his actions caused by the alcohol, or was he just a mean person in
