Clever, heroic and cocky. these are the words that come to my mind when I think of Odysseus from the Odyssey. Although some people think Odysseus is not a hero nevertheless he is because he always did his best to save, help and was loyal to his men he also never gave up on returning back home to Ithaca to be with his wife Penelope and his son
Many years pass and many think he is dead so suitor to marry his wife. For the end he is the hero and a different man for his family. The book starts with the 1st Marine Division deploying for the amphibious assault on Peleliu, a largely forgotten but very contested island battle. Sledge then goes on to describe the physical and mental hardships of combat and discusses many “combat stories" and other key events as the marines capture Peleliu. After a month, the marines are victorious and return to their base on Pavuvu for several months of rest. There Sledge talks about how the rest is something he could get used to and something that could be an eternity for him. Sledge and the 1st Marine Division, with other marine and army divisions, then deploy for the amphibious assault on Okinawa, the destruction battle that would soon be closing out the pacific campaign.
Usually, epic heroes share common character traits such as bravery,courage,loyalty,. In Homer’s Odyssey, it is my belief that Odysseus is not heroic mostly because he was loyal when he was gone and left his wife. For example, when he went where Hades was all his men went and they ended up dieing.
Odysseus is a leader that portrays both non-heroic and heroic traits throughout the story. These traits reflect his way of thinking and what actions he takes. These traits fluctuate from bravery to overconfidence. Nonetheless, the traits all contribute to the hero and as a result, they contribute to the story. As a hero, there are many admirable stereotypical character traits Odysseus possesses.

However, through his odyssey, the audience finds Odysseus to be much more than an everyday hero. While other heroes relied on their strength and ability in battle, Odysseus, while also having the skill of all of the other warriors, relies heavily on his cunning when faced with obstacles.
When most people think of a hero they think of a tall muscular man, but have you ever thought of their personalities? In the epic poem, Odyssey by Homer Odysseus and his men go on a long gruelling journey. At every turn they are battling some type of evil, but that doesn't stop him from getting home to his wife and and family. Odysseus is loyal and clever. Odysseus is loyal.
The Iliad is primarily about how the war is affected because of Achilles anger. Achilles character does not precisely change but grows from what it was at the beginning of the fifty-one days. A characteristic that stays constant throughout the fifty-one days is, Achilles lets his emotion drive him into making blind a reckless decisions. A characteristic that develops throughout the book is Achilles sense of consequence(book 15-390 18).

In the Iliad, the character of Achilles has numerous character flaws that cause him to have blinded judgement towards his actions as well as shutting out everyone around within the epic poem. Achilles’ rage keeps him from being the hero that we were supposed to see him as.
All four characters have many character flaws but only one flaw admittedly lead to their downfall. Achilles is the greatest warrior in Homer 's The Iliad but he has many positive characteristics but he also has a few negative characteristics. Achilles was heroic, strong and brave but he has negative characteristics such as anger and rage. Sequentially anger lead to Achilles downfall. When Achilles finds out that Hector has killed his dear friend Patroclus, Achilles becomes very anger and vengeful.
In Homer’s The Iliad, epic hero Achilles serves as an example of how rage, when unchecked, leads to disastrous repercussions. Achilles, though nearly superhuman in his physical abilities, struggles repeatedly to contain his anger. Throughout The Iliad, as Achilles’ fury compounds, the consequences of his actions become catastrophic, eventually leading to the death of his best friend, Patroclus. Although Achilles ultimately chooses to avenge Patroclus’ death and achieve his own kleos, or honor, his rage-driven actions lead to the death of many Achaean soldiers, and change the course of his fate.
These abilities are important as a warrior because both his men and the hero reflect and are influenced by them. Some of the abilities are excellence in war, courage, leadership and fighting qualities. These qualities are seen through the heroic characters Hector and Achilles. When Achilles is not present with his men, the Greeks are well defeated by the Trojans with no motivation or support. Achilles is also described by his men as a power figure when the poem says “These were his words,/ and all Achaeans gave a roar of joy/ to hear the Prince abjure his rage.”
In many mythological stories, heroes are described to be someone with great strength or someone who possess great intellect. These special characteristics help heroes achieve dangerous goals that require great strength and courage. Theseus stands out when compared to the other mythological heroes. He not only possess great strength, but he also intellect and compassion. By deciding to make everything equal in Athens, Theseus created a very prosperous city which stood out all throughout the world.
The Iliad also spotlights the individual qualities of a Greek hero or non-hero. Numerous characters in the Iliad demonstrated exceptional qualities of a Greek person that was valued, such as bravery and helpfulness and that was disproved of like selfishness. One trait that is highly appreciated by the greeks in the Iliad is bravery. In battle Hector killed Achilles´s best friend Pactorlos in battle.
These characteristics are traced in multiple contexts, and it creates an extensive picture of the character. Honor, pride, loyalty, courage, and vengefulness are the fundamental traits of Achilles’ character that determine his behavior and manifest themselves in his speech and actions. Pride and honor are the fundamental characteristic of Achilles, and there are several key episodes that can prove it. From the very beginning of the poem, one can see that Achilles is very sensitive when it comes to honor and reputation. The conflict with Agamemnon related to Chryseis, who was taken as a slave, is the turning point.
