Glory and power were the two main goals Beowulf and Achilles wanted to achieve. To achieve his goals Achilles set of to Troy. On the other Beowulf wanted the spotlight but he did it in a more subtle way. Beowulf was also helping a tiny kingdom and he seems not as worried about himself and more about others. In hopes that the Greeks would beg and plead for him to come back. Achilles wished that the Greeks wouldn’t do so well without him.
Ending with deaths of many Greeks including one of Achilles friends Patroclus Achilles wish came true. Both Beowulf and Achilles have a public enemy. He beat Hector such as Beowulf defeated Grendel. The authors of these stories did show how much better these men were compared to the other characters. Beowulf did have some issues battling with Grendel's mother but he still won the battle. In today's society that is what we base on true “heroic” work. Achilles was a prince and Beowulf wasn’t either but they did go and battle and became famous and got the glory they wanted regardless of their status.
In Achilles story he has a wing man or a side kick unlike Beowulf he was ditched in his moment in need during battle with the dragon, all of the soldiers fled for their lives. Comparing the two heros they are very similar, but the difference between them is that Beowulf was not lead by anger. On the other hand Achilles is motivated by anger and hatred because of the killing of his friend Patroclus. Achilles does not die with nobility or honor.
Paris shot Achilles in the heel. This happened because no mortal could kill him in a battle. On the other hand Beowulf dies in the battle with the dragon, which was a big scene and a big deal to his people because he died saving them.
