“Aspire rather to be a hero than merely appear as one,” said Baltasar Gracian. Not all heros wear capes or can fly. Nor do they look as imagined, they just look like ordinary people who do not always want to be cherished for their daring acts. The author of the first novel The Enemy of the seven book series is Charlie Higson who is not only an author but an english actor, comedian, screenwriter, producer and a former singer. Many characters in the book The Enemy show heroism but one character that stands out above all is Achilleus who demonstrates three of the many character traits of a hero; Altruism, being caring and being tenacious.
Firstly, Achilleus demonstrates heroism by how altruistic he is in the book The Enemy. He showed this character trait because he was always saving people's lives, in the novel it says “he’d saved them all many times” (Higson, 7). For example, Achilleus tried to save Deke from the swimming pool, “He plunged a hand under the water roughly where he had last seen Deke” (Higson, 23). Also, when the gang was …show more content…

He showed this character trait because during the fight with John at the Palace, he knew that John was the better fighter but he did not give up it only made him more determined to win. Achilleus got injured by John during the fight more than once, “(t)he triple blades slashed across Achilleus’s chest, ripping his T-shirt and drawing blood” (Higson, 333). Also, “(o)ne of the knives raked his cheek, though and cut his ear half-off” (Higson, 335). He still kept on fighting although he was injured and John barely had a scratch on him. “Achilleus was looking like a fool” (Higson, 333) it said in the book but still Achilleus would not surrender. This shows that him being tenacious makes him very heroic because no matter what pain or humiliation he was put through he did not give up and in the end he won.
