One day Elie Wiesel said, “ The opposite of love is not hate, it’s indifference.” In today’s era the world runs rampant with hate, so when people are surrounded by that behavior they start to reflect off of their surroundings. In the novel, The Hate You Give, Angie Thomas portrays the communities struggle with hate by writing about a teenage girl that was a witness of police brutality and racism. 1. Protesting 2. Speaking out Angie Thomas shows activism as protesting; on the other hand, I define activism as speaking out. Angie Thomas makes it clear that protesting is activism through the experience of her characters throughout the novel. Later in the chapter, after Seven, Starr, and Chris got Devante back they heard the jury's decision then they decided to join the protest. Seven announces, “ fuck this. Starr, whatever you wanna do, I’m down. You wanna burn some shit up. Give the word.” (pg.389) This displays the anger created by the jury’s decision so the people try to make a difference by protesting. In order to create urgency for a wide search to find the girls, women started to put a post on twitter which said, #Bringbackourgirls.
