Nellie Bly was the first woman to report from the trenches during World War One. Elizabeth Jane Cochran, also known as Nellie Bly, was famous for her undercover reporting and breaking gender-related stereotypes. She reported on many issues during her time. She didn’t like that women and men weren’t seen as equal and there were many things that Nellie Bly wanted to report on were not lady like. Elizabeth Jane Cochran is considered a great American because of her impact on society.
Rachel Eaves, 14, is no ordinary girl. She was the only female player and defensive captain on her middle school team, playing as a linebacker and running back. It all started as joke, but soon turned into a reality, breaking the stereotype of football only being a boys’ sport. Rachel started playing football when she was ten.
Jane Addams life as a child was not easy, she had a congenital spinal defect which led to her never being physically strong and her father who served for sixteen years as a state senator and fought as an officer in the Civil War always showed that his thoughts of women were that they were weak, and especially her with her condition. But besides that she lived a very privileged life since her father had many famous friends like the president Abraham Lincoln. Jane was determined to get a good education which she ended up getting. She went to Rockford sanitary for women which is now called Rockford University and she also studied to be a doctor but had to quit because she was hospitalised too many times. Being sick affected her life very much so when she got older she remedied her spinal defect with surgery.
Stereotypes are seen all throughout history in films and television. With all of the character tropes that began to make an appearance in films, most characters were thrown into a certain box with a checklist of criterias that they had to fit. Character tropes are especially seen in movies with a high school setting due to the overwhelming pressure of fitting in and the cliques that seem to ring true in real life. In most high school movies there is almost always a teacher's pet, jock, stoner, geek, and most importantly a mean girl. A mean girl trope is very common in high school movies and they are usually one of the most relevant characters to the plot of the movie.

She got the idea to start a settlement house when she went to England with her friend, Ellen Gates Starr, and they saw the Toynbee Hall settlement Home and what they did for people who weren’t as fortunate. The Hull House provided education, shelter, food, fun, clothing, physical aid and more. Along with the Hull House, she was also very well known for her involvement in women’s suffrage. Stereotypes are used in everyday life. Celebrities such as Future, Wendy Williams, and Young Thug are the main target for these stereotypes. Future (the rapper) is a stereotypical male celebrity holding the stereotype All Men Are Dogs. Wendy Williams (tv/talk show host) is a stereotypical female celebrity that fits the stereotype All Women Do Is Gossip. Last but not least, Young Thug (rapper) is androgynous and fits the stereotype that all men that dress feminine are gay.

In the 1950’s the decade had provided the popular belief of “Leave it to Beaver” image of the era. That could be described as the peaceful, prosperous, and smooth sailing of the stereotypical characteristic of all people living in this time period. But, as stereotypes may be looked upon as facts, this was not the case at all. Though, the 1950’s may seem like a peaceful era, it was much more complex than that, the 1950s did not always match up with this popular image.
Stereotypes- The thought that comes into our minds when we think about individuals or plainly, just groups of people. Throughout the decades, women have been expected to be smart homemakers, nurturing mothers, and obedient wives above anything else. In the novel, The Help by Kathryn Stockett, women strived to fit the 1960’s stereotype, the hairdo and all. However, Skeeter, the main character, plays an educated, unmarried, and aspiring writer.

Thesis: The problem in society today is in the industry of social media. In efforts to attract the eye of the general population, advertising companies create billboards, commercials, flyers and other ads with stereotypes that are accepted in today’s society. Because of the nations’ cultural expectation for all different types of people, advertisement businesses follow and portray exactly what and how each specific gender, race, or religion should be.

According to the U.S. Census, 5.6% of the United States’ population is Asian. There are millions of Asian Americans who reside here, they exist. So why does Hollywood and other forms of media pretend like they do not? Unfortunately, when Hollywood does acknowledge their existence, Asian Americans are limited to typecasted roles such as a nerd, a taxi driver, or a kung fu master. Not only are these roles offensive, they also inaccurately represent an entire ethnic group.
