Similarities and Differences

In the short stories,” Abuela invents a zero” and “Home”, show great life lessons. Each story has a character that has a problem and gets it fixed through hard times. In the story,” Home” by Anton Chekhov is about a boy, Seryozha who smokes. He gets caught by one of his father’s maids. The maid tells Yevgeny, Seryozha’ father. The young boy steals the cigarettes from his father's table. So now we know that the young boy is stealing, smoking and when he gets caught, he says,” I never smoked.” That is a lie! He is lying because he doesn’t want to get in trouble. So now he is lying, stealing, and most importantly smoking. So know we know that he definitely should not have done that. For example a similarity in the story, “Home”, Seryozha has a problem and gets it fixed, and in the second story,” Abuela Invents a Zero”, Constancia may have made up with her problem with Abuela. These two stories may have influenced many people across the world, including me. Another similarity is that the characters in both stories learned how personal experiences can shape Constancia, Abuela, Seryozha, and Yevgeny’s life lessons/ values. These stories have some differences; In the Story,” Abuela Invents a Zero”, Constancia shows how ignoring someone and being mean to someone, can leave Abuela in tears and when she imitated,” You made me feel like a zero, like a nothing.” Also in the the story,” Home” Anton Chekhov uses some pretty good examples on how if you do something as a kid it can affect the way you do and see things. So the difference is Abuela had something done to her and Seryozha was doing something that affected himself very horribly.

Hopefully those characters learned a lesson. They both knew they did wrong. Seryozha is under 10 years of age and he is already, smoking, stealing, and lying. I personally think that he learned a lesson and hopefully he taught other people this lesson from that story,”home” by Anton Chekhov. In, “ Abuela invents a zero” by Judith Cofer ortiz, she has a character who is elderly and sweet hearted and she has another character named Constancia. Constancia is very mean to Abuela and hopefully Constancia learned a lesson and I think if she taught me a lesson, she taught others
