‘Five Stories’ composed by Michael Nelson Tjakamarra (Jagamara), is an acrylic on canvas painting. Measuring to 122 x 182 cm, created in 1984. The art piece is considered an aboriginal Dreamtime painting, telling us a story. Aboriginal symbolism is present throughout the painting with design elements encompassing line, shape, and colour. Tjakamarra was born in 1949 at Pikilyi, Vaughan Springs west of Yuendumu, and is an Indigenous Australian painter.
In Tim O’Brien’s story “Notes,” he discusses his fellow soldier “Norman Bowker […] [who hung] himself in the locker room of the YMCA” (149). Bowker symbolizes the pain that many veterans experienced, and how they sadly found their only escape through suicide. Yet, veterans potentially could have survived and even thrived if they had access to resources such as therapy, psychiatrists, and psychologists. When organizations supporting the idea that veterans should have opportunity to obtain these assets proposed this concept to The House Committee members, “members repeatedly balked at the notion that Vietnam Veterans required special counseling programs to help readjust” (Scott 38).

In Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Purple Hibiscus, the character of Papa can be read and interpreted differently depending on who the reader is. One reader can interpret and see Papa as a tragic hero, a character who has made a judgment error which inevitably leads to his own downfall (Aristotle). While another, can interpret Papa as a tyrant, a cruel and oppressive ruler (Oxford). By placing Papa inside of a post-colonial world, presenting him as a dominant and abusive man who reaches an inevitable downfall, Adichie sets the stage for the reader to view him as a tyrant. However, Adichie is able to show qualities that bring out Papa’s tragic hero side.
Furthermore, Adichie incorporates the use of rhetorical devices such as brief, powerful sentences, rhetorical questions, purposeful repetition, and alliteration to further support her ideas. What I believe to be her most powerful sentence is when she states that “Stories matter” (5). This brief sentence is significant because it makes the audience pause and think. This sentence takes us back to Adichie saying that single stories create stereotypes, therefore the stories that are told are important. Secondly, the rhetorical questions she asks the audience are the “what if’s”.

Chimamanda uses some very specific rhetorical techniques to try and shed light on a problem that she sees that needs to be fixed. Her Audience is the everyone of all ages, but more specifically to white Americans.
This poem also comments on societies attitude towards the unemployed and people in a bad situation. It comments on societies apathy to bad situations experienced by others and disgust of disadvantaged and poor people. If she has faced the dangers of her own single story, then she has the authority to speak about the subject. Her life stories then become evidence that contributes to the logos of the speech and proves the genuine dangers of a single story. This danger is also made real through Adichie 's use of literary allusions. Adichie references authors from the 16th century all the way to present day. These allusions provide a historical context, proving the timelessness of stereotyping.
How powerful is a single story? At Ted Global 2009, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, a Nigerian novelist, expresses her view of single stories and the ways in which they are used to create stereotypes and divides us as a people. Adichie’s talk, “The Danger of a Single Story”, stimulates careful consideration to what happens when people and situations are reduced to a single narrative. She believes single stories are highly correlated with the power structures of the world and have the ability to strip people of their humanity.
When she started to write stories herself, the characters were all white, with blue eyes, and were talking about things she never had identified with. But because she had only read books with characters looking like this, she thought that was how characters in books. The American and English books told a single story about the western people, just as many western medias tell a single story about Africa. She claims that many people in the western society know the single story about Africa.

There is a saying "don't judge a book by its cover". However, people of all generations are very judgmental.

Upon learning of her husband’s death, Mrs. Mallard experiences a revelation about her future without a husband. Her life, due to heart problems, suddenly ends after she unexpectedly finds out her husband is actually alive.
June Jordan, a poet who is famous for her positive blaze of justice, writes poetry while advocating a command for universal equity, which appeals to people from various areas of the world. Jordan’s poetry speaks of American issues as well as international issues, such as African countries that are oppressed by their neighbouring countries. Hour of Freedom “The Story of an Hour” is a short story written by Kate Chopin. It details a wife named Mrs. Louise Mallard, who struggles with a heart condition. After learning of her husband, Brentley Mallard’s death in a railroad accident, Mrs. Mallard deals with grief in many stages. Chopin incorporates many literary devices throughout “The Story of an Hour,” but imagery is the most evident.

In the beginning of the story, the Chopin informs the audience of Mrs. Mallard serious heart condition. Her friends and family were worried how to break the news to her of her husband’s death.
