A career in Business Administration has been impacted because of the developments in information technology. A Senior Administrative Assistant is an employee who handles much of the behind-the-scenes logistics of any company or organization. They are tasked with managing the calendar of executives in the company which includes scheduling meetings, speaking engagements and conferences. They serve as a travel agent and a meeting planner to bring to together some of the most diverse group of people both domestically and internationally. A Senior Administrative Assistant must have the ability to anticipate the need of the executive before he/she asks for a particular item/task and fulfill that need efficiently and effectively. For example, there was a time when and Administrative Assistant was considered “just a Secretary” who would go get the mail and the coffee for its higher level employees. They were treated as “typists” and were not looked upon as “thinking” individuals. Much of the work was done manually and was very time-consuming. Now that Information Technology has advanced, much of the work done by a Senior Administrative Assistant is computer generated. Calendars are managed utilizing Microsoft Office which keeps a running track of all the meetings both scheduled on an executive’s calendar as opposed to using a datebook and manually writing the meetings in the datebook.
