While the mission of the Covenant House is comprehensive, its vision highlights the compassion, and empathy that staff and volunteers should acquire. The first principle is immediacy, since the Covenant House seeks to come to the aid of a youth in dire need rapidly providing their basic human needs without question. Though progress toward decreasing youth homelessness in Michigan is in sync with the mission, vision, and values, often times there are other aspects that compromise the organization’s mission, vision, and goals. According to Netting, Kettner, McMurtry, & Thomas (2017) that positions in the organization are grouped into a hierarchy, job candidates are selected for their qualifications, positions reflect a high degree of education, positions typically demand full-time employment, and positions are career oriented. They also stated how every position has a corresponding sphere of competence. Hence, this organization’s staffing structure influences the distribution of power and control in the organization by adhering to hierarchal management. Gerald Piro is listed as the executive director of the Michigan location yet, he reports to the board of directors for the Michigan location. The executive director is also expected to report to Covenant House International. There is also an executive assistant who holds the same power as the executive director. Even though, all entities have different roles and responsibilities, they are at the top of the hierarchal leadership structure. The location of being in metro Detroit is very beneficial to servicing the homeless population in Detroit. The Covenant House has a positive representation within the community therefore, a multitude of corporations enjoy donating to the overall purpose of the Covenant House. Since the Covenant House receives 87% of their funds from private funds, this contributes to the organization’s revenue and adds to the donor base. The Covenant House also receives in-kind contributions such as clothing and food donations from local restaurants and citizens of the neighborhood who donates gently used clothing and brand new toiletries for the residents. Additionally, the representation that it withholds in the community is critical to the private donations the organization
