There are many people in this world who crave power, and based on their own vision and sacrifice of basic human rights and freedoms, will do everything in their power to create a stronghold on their citizens through use of oppressive forces and ideological manipulation. Adolf Hitler, born 1889 in Austria, was leader and creator of the renamed Nazi Party (National Socialist German Workers' Party), following his interest in anti-Semitism and nationalism. Big Brother’s regime in London, England depicts the very real totalitarian government and sets the birthplace of modernism. During this time, Hitler found interest in anti-Semitism and nationalism. He found this crisis as a gateway to rise to power, with an emergence of nationalism during this depression. While Germans were under poverty, Hitler used this ideology that all Germans needed to be unified under one national identity, and kill all gypsies, homosexuals, and of course, Jew’s because they were the prioritized enemy. Germans were subjugated under extreme threats: those who disobeyed laws of the Nazi Party were to be killed, tortured and abused like all the other races. To refrain from this disobedience, propaganda was the main tactic. Media and technology were censored in the most persuasive manner, you could only hear and see things the Nazis wanted you to see and hear. Big Brother had instilled this common enemy of Eurasia, when in reality, Eastasia was the enemy, and Eurasia was supposed to by the ally. Information, history, technology and language were all under control of the government. The society was constantly brainwashed by a paradox ideology where “War is Peace, Freedom is Slavery, Ignorance is Strength” through forces of propaganda. Citizens were controlled by the fear and paranoia that “Big Brother is watching” and were on constant guard of everything they said, wrote, and thought, the Thought Police helps with this. To limit disobedient expression, language was controlled with Newspeak, formulated as a way of controlling the mind, to make it near impossible to think or conceive wrongful thoughts or actions as well. The telescreens were used to show all news that was allowed, as all media was censored and controlled by the government. Citizens of Oceania were not allowed to think anything in opposition to Big Brother. The oppressive government monitored and controlled all of their citizens and there would be consequences for wrongful actions. Ironically, they have a room (101) in the Ministry of Love where citizens who disobey the laws are tortured with their worst fears.
