Adolf Hitler is infamous for his deep anti-semitism. Driven by his intense hate for Jews, he caused the genocide of 6 million Jews and further deaths in World War Two. Although many view him as the powerful German dictator, Hitler originally never intended to become the man he is known by today. Adolf’s beliefs would be gradually formed throughout his life as a child, citizen, son, soldier, and to the dictator he was until his death. Adolf Hitler was an intelligent and committed man, but would use these attributes for the wrong reasons.
Germany was unified in 1871, after one German state, Prussia, had won wars that tried to keep Germany divided and weak. This success brought an exaggerated respect for the new military and intense nationalism from the people of Germany. In the midst of Germany’s economic boom, Adolf was born in the small Austrian town of Braunau on April 20, 1889. He was the fourth of five children to Alois and Klara Hitler. Adolf’s father, Alois, was an Austrian customs official, therefore Adolf’s family led comfortable, middle-class lives. Whilst his mother was dying of breast cancer, Hitler found that he was rejected from the academy. In 1908, 18 year old Adolf moved from his hometown to Vienna. Antisemitism was not new in Vienna, therefore Hitler’s beliefs were built on. The mayor of Vienna was highly anti-semitic and accused Jewish bankers of controlling Vienna’s economy. Anti-semitism was widespread, and popular magazines claimed that Jews were taking over Vienna. Adolf “fell right into step” with the anti-semites and by 1909, Adolf was prowling on the streets, homeless, passing his time by arguing politics.
