History affords us the invaluable pleasure of being able to look at and examine the lives of individuals who have come before us. Sometimes however, these pleasures are not so pleasurable. The lives of history’s individuals are sometimes dark, twisted, and full of heinous atrocities but when one looks closely enough, they might find something that a lot of people choose to overlook. For the person who chooses to listen, history will teach them that even the most despicable figures, the ones that most people can identify as being cruel or evil, had portions of their life that almost seem common, almost seem enviable. The first to be examined was a young lady who went by the name Geli Raubal. Raubal was a bright, musically inclined, devoted young lady. When Hitler first met her, he was intrigued by her vibrant, young aires. He had given her an apartment in Munich because he desired time with her away from her mother because Raubal was seventeen while Hitler was nineteen years her senior and also happened to be her half uncle. There is no solid answer in regard to the nature of their relationship but it is known that Hitler loved to be seen in public with Raubal. He would often take her to meetings and public gatherings while refusing Raubal the right to actually do what she wanted to do. Hitler became exceedingly controlling over Raubal yet had expressed that he could marry her whenever she asked him to. Their marriage lasted only hours before the two decided to join together in a joint suicide.
