Adolf Hitler once said, “Those who want to live, let them fight, and those who do not want to fight in this world of eternal struggle do not deserve to live.” One man who stood out as a fighter was Simon Wiesenthal. He was a victim of the Holocaust but also an influence to many Jews. After being imprisoned by Hitler, Simon Wiesenthal, a Jew, sought revenge by spending his life hunting Nazis in hiding.
Events in Simon Wiesenthal’s early life led him to be a man who had a great impact on society. He was born on December 31, 1908, in Buczacz Galicia, Austria (Segev). Simon Wiesenthal’s dad died in World War I (Biography.com). Wiesenthal attended the University of Prague in 1932. At the university, he majored in architectural engineering (Segev). After college, Simon Wiesenthal worked at a bedsprings factory. He married Cyla Muller in 1936. Shortly after his marriage, Simon Wiesenthal’s family suffered from persecution from Nazi soldiers (Biography.com). Adolf Hitler interrupted his life and his family life, and he fought in World War II (“Simon”). The many encounters throughout Simon Wiesenthal’s life caused him to become influential in the Jewish community.
