Abstract: Movies are popular form of entertainment for English as a foreign language (EFL) students. Using movies with English subtitles to teach a foreign language can facilitate students’ motivation, solve ambiguity and remove some of the anxiety of the non-native learners. This study aimed to find out whether there were effect of watching movie with English subtitle in vocabulary learning. In total, 24 students from two selected classes of Soerjo University were participated in this study and the quantitative analysis of watching subtitled movies of vocabulary tests was conducted. A quantitative quasi-experimental approach with a pre-test and post-test group design was used for the method of this study. The statistical results showed that students using English subtitled movie in vocabulary learning has higher achievements compared to students who are not. Finally, it can be concluded that the use of movies with subtitles can improve students’ achievement in vocabulary learning. However, more studies need to be done in the future in order to get the most advantages out of the movie materials in EFL classrooms.
