Nevertheless, a key disadvantage would be the workplace counsellors would essentially have two clients – the employee in front of them and the organisation, as a peripheral client. They would be consciously or unconsciously mindful of the context in which the employees work and how the reaction would impact the business they are relying on, leading to conflict of interest. An external counsellor will be impartial to the best interest of the client. Further employees would be far more open to an external party than an individual under the pay of the organization that he / she might have negative thoughts about.
