In my eye my mother was a hero to all of my family, taking on two jobs, I could never do it. The war had many negative advantages to Southwest Virginia. We didn’t have luxuries that other countries had in the United States. My grandfather died in the war, it was one of the hardest times for any family to die. My grandmother had it hard when she found out by the telegram. We thought she was going to die with him. Most of the factories were laying off workers, especially Moms. All we had to do was just believe and wish that Mom wouldn’t get laid off. I had a teacher that would come and teach me because I had to stay at home and clean and cook for the family when they got home. My sister kept on getting bullied on at school because we didn’t have the money that other families had. It was a very rough road for all of us after the war. But all we could do was just believe. The worst time of all after the war was when the race riots started to start. The colored people were laying on the streets crying, because they got laid off from work, because of their race. People getting killed by fire shots of guns. My family was so scared to go out on the streets, because of the shootings. We always knew if Jesus Christ wanted us to come to Heaven with him we would
