1028 Words5 Pages
1. INTRODUCTION
Wind energy is the type of energy which is converted from wind into electricity. The advantages and disadvantages of wind energy will be discussed throughout this essay. The followings: renewable, non-pollutant is the main advantages and turbines noise, death of flying creatures and electricity not 24/7/365 are the main disadvantages. Throughout the body of the essay the discussion of the points mentioned above will be expand. Although it is a renewable source of energy, it can provide certain amount of electricity according to the variability of the wind, according Shea and Howard (2012:41), “yet, wind does not blow 24/7/365 in most location”. Wind power turbine is made on the outside of a tower, blade, rotor, pitch and the nacelle. Although wind energy does not cause pollution to the environment and it is renewable, the flying creatures have few chances of surviving when taking a direct hit through a rotating wind power turbine. The rotating motion of a turbine causes noise therefore building a wind energy power in an urban area should be avoided. In comparison to other continents, the first wind energy turbine in Africa was built in Gambia in 2009, according to Jensen (2009), “in January 2009, the first wind turbine in West Africa was erected in Batokunku, a village in The Gambia. The 150 kilowatt turbine provides electrical power for the 2,000-person village”.
