Youths sports; advantage or disadvantage?

Organized sports is a part of the everyday-life for children all over the world. Football, basketball, and ice-hockey, are just a few of the sports that youths are involved in. While being part of a team, despite what sports it is, you get to feel a team spirit and meet new friends. That sport-activities also result in better health does not make it sound any worse. To involve youths in organized sports seems to be a marvelous idea. But due to lack of time and high expenses, which the participation in organized sports implies, it is hard for many families to cater to their children’s need of being a part of a sports organization. This leaves us with one question: to what extent do the advantages of involving children in sports outweigh the disadvantages?

Firstly, Victoria State Government’s “Better Health Channel”, describes several good effects of participating in sports outside of school. Reduced risk of obesity, improved sleep and improved social skills are examples of the great things that youth sports activities result in. The channel brings up statistics which describe the participation in sports, depending on age and gender. These statistics clarify that the amount of children that take part in a sports organization is not very pleasing; “Only six out of 10 children aged between five and 14 years old participate in sports outside of school”.
