There are many different ways of training employees in the workforce. Challenges constantly arise to get employees to work efficiently and competently within industry. The more technical the task, the longer the traditional training cycle. Augmented reality is the missing link that will help companies reduce the time it takes for an employee to come up to speed. It will help engineering and production managers present more technical information to their teams while rapidly transforming a canvas of reality to an artistic painting of specific task or movements in a composite form. More specifically it is a tool that can change the landscape of manufacturing. Augmented reality is a technology that overlays a computer produced image on a …show more content…

Soon the business world will be dominated by a simple fact; the workforce will grow increasingly grayer as the aging boomers drive up the median age of the population and workforce higher (Goldberg, 2000). A topic more than a decade ago, graphs in this discussion would show we are approaching the apex of this transition if not already there. Manufacturing and even construction disciplines for that matter harness the horsepower of American society. Although a lot of manufacturing companies have focused on automation, there lies a challenge in more laborious operations to find replacements to do these difficult task. Manufacturing and engineering managers find themselves wading ankle deep in a shallow resource pool of skilled laborers. To make matters worse, the younger generation have no interest in entering a dull, dirty and repetitive industry. Enter augmented reality; the bridge that young laborers will cross into manufacturing. The emerging problem is not many youth are taking on manufacturing, construction or many other industrial disciplines. It is not an attractive career and in many cases it does not link the use of modern technology or so they may think. To make these industries more attractive and put trades back into the forefront of American prowess, augmented reality is one that makes the shift to a more youthful …show more content…

It has specific applications that can revitalize an aging workforce and draw the attraction of youthful potential industrial workers by linking a way of thinking, learning and utilizing technology and making the manufacturing world relevant again. There is a cause to bring AR to the academic world to simplify science and engineering through the use of real world, real time augmented visuals which make learning and retaining easier. These same applications can make manufacturing attractive to the third grader who may not necessarily have a path to college but can be a productive industrialist by utilizing their knack for gaming and technology in a manufacturing setting. These same companies can also speed up onboarding and training using AR making complex and difficult process simpler by overlaying augmented visuals of real world movements right before their eyes. This allows for easier visual repetition and faster cognitive learning. Augmented reality is not only a solution for business but a solution for managers. It will introduce a new level of employee into the workforce and it will solve concerns regarding inefficiencies and productivity in
