Advertising, which is defined as the activity or profession of providing advertisements for commercial products or services, is one of the most important things to businesses or corporate sectors today. When the analysis of advertising comes into play one can see that the images that are used and portrayed essentially affect all of us as an individual and as a society at large. By closely analyzing all the stops or in a sense techniques used when advertising, we can infer that it is all connected with the focus on the principles of consumption. The term culture is defined as being the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively. Values are defined as the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance, worth, or usefulness of something. Cultural values are defined as ideas about what is good, right, fair, and just. When we take a look at some of the cultural values associated where we live, the ones in America are equality, individuality, work hard; play hard = success, the sky is the limit, freedom, mobility, safety, competition, and efficiency. For instance, some advertisements that depict cultural values would be the revolt jeans advertisements and the burger king advertisements. The revolt jeans advertisements emphasize power, equality, individuality, freedom, success, and the importance of knowledge, which are all American core values. With this being said, culture brings about the inner parts of an individual society. Culture also defines values, but without that there would be a social discord and society will fail. Society, as a whole cannot function properly without cultural norms that help with behavior and values, and culture could not be in play without societal influences to create it. In retrospect, these things must coexist in order for humans to coexist in an organized manner. But all in all, culture changes over times, as norms change, but the individuals of that society help that change to happen, so as an individual of that society we have some control over the culture itself.
