Voting is important, because it took a long time for everyone that is of age to be able to vote. It was a long hard fight for women, and African Americans. It wasn’t until 1848 that the women's right movement began. On August 18th, 1920 the 19th amendment was added to the constitution; this amendment gave American women the right to vote. on August 6, 1995 the voting rights act of 1995 took pace. The goal was to overcome the legitimate obstacle at state and local levels that stopped African Americans from getting the right to vote, that didn't happen. Women honestly were treated very badly almost like property. Men thought that since women were “weaker” they were not worth as much. The men just expected a stupid housewife that …show more content…

My personal belief is that they could not vote, because they were different. They were not white, and from what I can tell they were not wealthy. White men were apparently just a big thing in this time, kinda like from the movie “Mean Girls”. African Americans put in so much work and effort into being able to vote; and in some cases equality. The voting right yes they got through that and came out victorious; but still to this day African Americans are still not treated equally or with the same respect.
