Today writings have been produced for thousands of years and will still be produced. One of these writings is poetry, which is “the art of rhythmical composition, written or spoken, for exciting pleasure by beautiful, imaginative, or elevated thoughts” (poetry). Through poetry, thousands of writings have been created to share people’s ideas and feelings. It is a way to share who you are and what you stand for to someone else. Poetry is just one idea though, there are many more ways to write how you feel and who you are. Do we still need poetry, or is there better forms out there to share ideas? Poetry is shared daily from multiple people on multiple sources about many ideas. One of the ideas, Mother’s Day, has people writing numerous ideas about. This holiday has created a stir in people with their emotions and thoughts. Poetry is one of the best ways to include both of those within a paper. The fact is, that not all the time you will be able to understand what people meant to say in their writings. It can get confusing whether not knowing who said or not understanding what they meant with that word. As referred to “After Making Love We Hear Footsteps” by Galway Kinnell, it doesn’t reference to who is speaking, so there has to be an inference on who is speaking. This poem talks about parenting and can be referred to Mother’s Day, however it is not sure if the mother is talking or if it is the father. Poetry can be confusing and if not understood the correct way, it could also be taken the wrong way. There have been vast poems written where the entire idea of the poem was wrong because people thought the writer felt a specific way. This shows that poetry is based on the reader’s knowledge and ideas of the world and other people. That proves that poetry does have its dilemmas and
