Against drunk drivers by Charles Tibbetts What is drunk driving? Drunk driving is driving an automobile under the influence of excessive alcohol. What is its opposite? The opposite of drunk driving is driving sober, or not intoxicated. What thoughts lead a person to drunk driving? A person may think “I am not drunk enough for anything to go wrong.” “If the other drivers on the road compensate for me, not thing bad will happen.” And therefore they elect to drive while intoxicated. Why should drunk driving be punished? Drunk driving should be punished because it endangers innocent lives, simply for the sake of convenience for someone who chose to intoxicate himself. In addition, it is the law and when the law is broken, the offender should be punished. [HOD-cause] Our subject, while intoxicated after a party, chose to drive home saying, “It is of no value whether I can drive safely or not, as long as the other drivers on the road do their part to avoid accidents.” [HOD-epilogue] He thought if the other drivers are safe, why does it matter if I am? [HOP-honor] This is a deliberate disobedience of the law, and putting innocent people in direct danger for which he should be thrown, bang, [onomatopoeia] into the slammer. Comparison [Analogy-consequence] Texting while driving is a bad crime, but drunk driving is worse. When you text you temporarily distract yourself by looking away from the road and focusing on your phone, endangering those around you, [pragmatographia] but when you drink and drive you are driving without the ability to make right judgement, and therefore are distracted and endanger those around you the entire time you are driving. [HOD-epilogue] Although texting, temporary distraction, is bad, driving under the influence, constantly deconcentrated, is much worse.
