Every year in March we celebrate Women’s History Month. The fact that I am a woman, I feel that women in history, who fought for the rights we have today, are heroes. A few that stand out include: Rosa Parks, Princess Dianna and Agatha Christie. Women can do just about everything a man can do. Have you ever wanted to write a mystery novel? Well Agatha Christie was one of the best mystery writers in history. Growing up in the late 1800’s when women had little to no rights, Agatha Christie, despite being rejected six times by printing companies, prevailed at becoming a top selling author as well as a successful woman in history. Author Agatha Christie was born September 15, 1890, and was the youngest in her family. At a young age she taught herself how to read. Although Christie had little to no education, that did not stop her from becoming one of the most successful writers in history, male or female. In 1954 she received the first ever Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America. Her novels were, and still are, helpful in helping women realize they can become whatever they chose. Being a writer was not the only helpful thing she did, for many years Agatha Christie held essay competitions for the local schools. …show more content…

“Some even compare the conditions of women in this time to a form of slavery.”(Smith) Therefore the fact that Agatha Christie was able to become the successful woman she was, adds to the pride I feel as a woman when I read about her life. Also during this time women were viewed only as someone to improve their husband’s social status. Upon marriage all of her belongings, including any inheritance, became the property of her husband.
