Aileen Carol Pittman was born on February 29, 1956 to Diane Wuornos and Leo Dale Pittman (?). Her mother, Diane, had married Leo when she was only fourteen and had their first child, a son named Keith, a year later and Aileen eleven months later. Two months before Aileen was born, Diane divorced Leo and struggled to raise the two children alone. Aileen would never meet her father. Leo Pittman was also raised by his grandparents. He was known to be abusive towards them and people described him as moody and violent. He would later be diagnosed with schizophrenia. At the time of Aileen’s birth, Leo was incarcerated. He was charged and convicted with the kidnap and rape of a seven-year-old girl. He would end up committing suicide in prison in 1969 …show more content…

Many of her outbursts were described as unpredictable and frequently unprovoked. Aileen often performed sexual acts with boys from school and from the neighborhood for cigarettes, drugs, food, or loose change (?). Friends of Keith even claim to have witnessed incest between the siblings as well. By fourteen, Aileen had become pregnant. No one knows for sure who the father was but it is rumored to either be her grandfather, her brother, a boy in the neighborhood, or a friend of her grandfathers who had raped her. Aileen blamed herself for that death and found herself having many run-ins with the police. At eighteen, Aileen was arrested in Colorado, for a DUI, disorderly conduct and firing a .22-caliber pistol from a moving vehicle (?). In 1976, shortly after her marriage fell apart, she was arrested in Michigan for assault and disturbing the peace after she had thrown a cue ball at a bartender’s head (?). At twenty-six she was arrested in Florida for armed robbery, after robbing a convenience store for thirty-five dollars and two packs of cigarettes (?). She was sentenced to three years in prison and was released in 1983 (?). The next year she was arrested for attempting to cash forged checks in Key West. At thirty, Aileen was arrested in Miami for car theft, resisting arrest, and obstruction of justice (?). Police also found a .38-caliber revolver and ammunition in the car which she had stolen in 1985 in Pasco County (?).
