My immersion into the Air Force family began sixteen years ago when my father took the oath to serve our great country. Military families come from all walks of life, joining together to be your new family away from home. I quickly ascertained a special bond that exists in the military family. Missed birthdays, ball games, performances and graduations are the reality of the military mobile life that I live. The military family understands the importance of plugging in immediately and having someone to watch your back. I serve in my military family because I comprehend the importance of this unit and how it directly impacts the success of the military community as a whole. It cannot be a take, take and never give back situation. It is important to return back a portion of the support you have received, so that you can send others forward to serve. Service and support will be front and center as I start this next chapter of my life. My family has been the direct recipient of support during some difficult times. I plan to stay entwined in the close knit military community and take what I have learned into my new community. After being on the receiving end of such overwhelming support and service I am inspired to give back. I plan to seek out opportunities to serve at my local food bank or soup kitchen. Once I am settled on campus, I will look for possibilities to volunteer as a mentor in local after school programs. It is important to be plugged in wherever you are. The Air Force family has taught me that to be successful in my own life; it starts by helping others around me.
