An Interview with Seth Akweshie, Living Proof That Hard Work Pays Off Written and interviewed by Pamela Akweshie Seth Akweshie, a very experienced consultant, accountant, manager and educationist, and is one of the most influential people I have the honour of having in my life. He has made it through thick and thin in his life and has decided to keep his legacy going on by giving his children and close friends the secrets of his success. Seth Akweshie (born in 1953) is from Accra, Ghana. Mr. Akweshie attended Sogakofe Secondary School (GCE “Ordinary” Level), then Tema Secondary School (GCE “Advanced” Level). He then went to the University of Ghana, Legon for his Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Economics and Statistics. Please describe an event or moment in your life that taught you the most about your career. I was engaged for a very challenging assignment. I thought I knew how to write an Inception Report [LAUGHS]. An Inception Report sets out to demonstrate to the Client how you are going to carry out the tasks. After the first draft of the Inception Report, one member to the Reference Group was not satisfied with my report. He made the work so difficult that one would have given up. I didn’t. He literally condemned my report and gave his own structure for the Inception Report. I had to rewrite virtually the whole report. Eventually, he got satisfied and allowed the work to proceed. Later, he recommended me to some other experts who needed assistance in my area of expertise. The lesson in this is that one should never give up, no matter how difficult it might appear at first. It also taught me to listen to anyone who might not necessarily agree with me. That one should accept criticism even when it appears harsh. Overcoming that challenge may well lead you to the next major
