Al Capone was a famous American gangster that was the co-founder and boss of the “Chicago Outfit”. Al Capone was named Public Enemy No. 1 after his arrest. His seven year reign as a crime boss ended when he was 33 years old. He was born in Brooklyn NY January 17th 1899. He was born to two italian immigrants, his father was a barber and his mother was a seamstress.
Al Capone was one of the famous organized Mafia Mobsters. Dropped out of High school at 14 foe hitting and teacher. He educated himself by working on the streets. Al Capone is one of the many well-known inmates that served time at Alcatraz. At the time of Al Capone imprisonment, James Johnston was Warden.
It was easy to find success in the 1920’s, even if that success was obtained illegally. Al Capone was one of the most notorious gangsters in United States history. His terrifying reputation was more than enough to make the strongest politician become his pawn. Although Al Capone had a normal childhood, his destiny changed when he was expelled from school. This event steered him down the road to work for the mob and eventually become one of the most infamous mob bosses.

One of the most famous and influential prisoner to be held at Alcatraz was Al “Scarface” Capone. By 20, he moved to Chicago and became one of the most powerful gangsters. Capone managed a popular nightclub, The Four Deuces, and was involved in bootlegging, prostitution, and gambling houses. He was responsible for multiple violent acts revolved around gangs. The most famous act was on February 14, 1929, also known at St. Valentine's Day Massacre.

He was born on January 17, 1899 a pair of Italian immigrants and given the birth name Alphone Caponi which he later changed. Al was the fourth child out of a total of nine children.

Later, he moved on to the Five Points Gang, which he graduated from. He got into a gang fight and someone cut his face with a razor hence the nickname “Scarface” (Grossman). When Torrio entered a brothel business he sent for Capone to be a bouncer at the saloon.
During the 1920s multiple criminal activities were taking place and the majority of illegal activity was due to the eighteenth amendment which prohibited the selling and manufacture of alcohol. Illegal activity that took place was bootlegging and the establishment of speakeasies. With criminal activity on the rise, a major criminal behind many illegal activities at the time was Al Capone. In addition, the Mafia rose with gambling, bootlegging, and illegal marketing.
Al capone did not only do violent crimes but he helped the people around him by setting up a soup kittchen during depression and a city wide program to give free milk to schools kids. In 1939 he was found guilty of tax evasion and was jailed for eight years. while in jail prohibiton ended and grew ill from syphilis. Al capone was released in 1939 and moved to florida. On january 25, 1947 Al capone died.

Capone thought of himself as a sort of Robin Hood who provided for the poor and believed that through his illegal actions, he was only giving the people what they wanted.
