There is a list of people in this world who are generally seen as vital to society. Doctors, teachers, lawmakers, scientists, and many more make this unspoken list. Doctors are needed to save people, teachers educate the next generation, and lawmakers make necessary decisions for the public. But for most, one kind of person would not make it on that list, they wouldn 't even be considered for it-humorists. TV shows, movies, comic strips, and other forms of satire are seen as entertainment; thus, they are not essential. Alain de Botton would argue the opposite, claiming that humorists are vital to society because they can talk about topics that no one else can through the use of humor. De Botton was correct in his assessment of the role of humorists; for without them, important matters, whether they be social, political, or economical, wouldn 't be brought to the attention of the masses in an educational yet understandable manner. There are many different levels of humor ranging from niche humor to highly sophisticated humor to crude and brash humor. Even thought some forms of humor are more revered than others, all forms of humor, through any type of medium, can be informative. The creators of South Park, a popular yet controversial cartoon, Matt Stone and Trey Parker made a big impact on the public 's views of Tourette Syndrome. Many Americans were unaware of the disorder which is known for causing verbal or physical tics. After the episode aired, awareness dramatically increased for Tourette Syndrome. The Tourette Syndrome Association stated that the content of the episode, while slightly over exaggerating the less occurring obscene tics for the sake of comedy, was otherwise informative and accurate.
