In the story “Big Things Come in Small Packages,” written by Eleanora Tate, writes a short story that takes place in “Morehead City” the two main characters, Tucker and Mr. Nibbles, go down on a pier and were floating when a huge storm came. Tucker and Mr. Nibbles got knocked off their raft and into the ocean. Then, Mr. Nibbles almost drowns, because he can’t swim, and Tucker saves Mr. Nibbles. Tucker is the hero and later in newspapers and tv news shows. Tucker will always be remembered.
Chief executive officers (CEOs) are the corporate employees that are responsible for managing an entire organization. Presently there is a controversy over their salary as to whether it is appropriate or not for one person to be paid so much, especially when the company or the economy may not be performing well. Philosopher Jeff Moriarty wrote an article, “Do CEOs Get Paid Too Much?” that tackles this controversy and he provides possible circumstances in which CEO salaries may be justified. Moriarty’s claim is that CEOs are paid too much, if their salaries are not based off one of three popular views (Moriarty 264).

Social Darwinism is “Herbert Spencer’s adaptation of Charles Darwin’s concepts of natural selection and “survival of the fittest” as it applies to human society” (Nash p. 417). Social Darwinists believed that the social order was the product of the natural selection of the individuals that were best suited for the existing living conditions. Some people believe that students who go to college more intelligence than students who go working after graduating high school. However, going to college does not means all students as intelligence; because students might go to colleges to have a degree, but not to be intelligence. Argument Response to James Suroviecki’s “The Pay is Too Damn Low” In the New Yorker magazine on August 12, 2013, James Surovwiecki’s article “The Pay is Too Damn Low” was published. He lays out a good argument on the benefits of raising the minimum wage, but fails to address the complicated connection between low-cost goods and services that Americans have come to demand and the low minimum wage. If companies such as Wal-Mart, and McDonalds were to have to pay $15 an hour for their lowest paid employee’s, it stands to reason the added costs would be passed on to consumers. Would Americans revolt at the idea of paying nearly double for a “happy meal”, or a coffee maker?

What Rose is trying to infer is that just because you are labeled blue collar: meaning you have to earn your income from manual labor, and have lack of educational knowledge, does not mean you cannot earn the knowledge in your work career. He lets us know how growing up he was around a bunch of Blue-Collar workers himself, and how intelligence is not based on the education you have but what you can Develop on your own from just being open minded. He explains to use how blue-collar jobs take a toll on both body and mind. He believes that you don't need to be taught things to develop intelligence that your intelligence comes from within. He shared the different stories of blue-collar workers life that he experience such as his mother and his uncle to help us see that even if you don't have a high education and a college degree you can still become a successful.

Mike Rose is a professor at the UCLA graduate school of education and information studies. This article originally appeared in 2009 in the American Scholar, a magazine published by the Phi Beta Kappa Society. Rose’s intended audience for this article is white collar workers, who usually hold a negative perspective towards their colleagues who aren’t as well educated as them. Mike Rose uses his mother and uncle as examples of his argument that those without formal education have important kinds of intelligence as well just in different ways.
Ms. Vasquez was the newest member of the first grade team at Westside Elementary School. She, along with three other teachers, made up the first grade teaching staff. Three years before Sally’s employment began, the first grade staff “adopted academic progress and social development criteria for determining whether students should be retained in grade” (Kowalski, pg. 59). While Sally was uncomfortable with retaining students, she was not yet confident enough in her position to challenge the veteran teachers. During her schooling, “Sally had been told that the negative aspects of retaining students far outweighed the benefits-a contention that was supported by several research articles she was required to read” (Kowalski, pg. 59).
I learned many things at InstaCareer that will assist me in preparing for a career fair or networking event. One thing I learned is to wear either a suit, or the equivalent of a suit without the jacket. This will make me look more professional, and marketable to potential employers. Another thing I learned is it is better to have a professional looking portfolio to carry my resumes around in. This will accomplish two things for me.
Teachers are the life-blood of school districts across the United States. They are masters of their specific grade-level content and work tirelessly to manage the learning and well-being of their students. Teachers are the academic leaders of the learning environment within their classrooms and collaborate with their students throughout the year in order to facilitate learning, and foster creativity and problem solving. However, over the last thirty years, teacher leadership has taken on a whole new meaning.
