In 1991, a band that uses fragments of samples from other bands and sounds, was sued by a famous rock band called U2. U2 claims that Negativland copied u2’s “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for instead of sampling it. Negativland and their record label, SST records, were found guilty. I overturn the lower court’s decision. I believe the lower court’s ruling should be overturned because I do not believe that Negativland Violated the copyright law by sampling from U2.
This song caught my eye as it reminded me of the Canadian national anthem. “I drew a map of Canada, oh Canada (Lang, 2004). ” As I interpreted this song, it stood out to myself as romantic, but also as a song filled with national’s pride.
You can easily relate “Creep” by Radiohead to Holden Caulfield and his pessimistic attitude towards everything and everybody in the book. Wherever Holden goes, he constantly refers to people as “phonies”, without even speaking a word to them. He is very critical and hold high standards for not only other individuals, but of himself as well. His low self-esteem is quite apparent from all the negative comments he makes throughout the text. In my honest opinion, I think Holden puts others down as a way to make himself feel better about the bad in his own life.
The song “Under the Bridge” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers is an emotional piece. I know that this was not originally written as a song, but rather as a personal poem that Anthony Kiedis, the lead singer, wrote for himself about his hardships as a heroine addict years ago. In this song, Kiedis sings about how the only thing that loves him is Los Angeles, the “city of angels.” The lyrics, “I drive on her streets ‘cause she is my companion, I walk through her hills ‘cause she knows who I am,” are interesting because he refers to LA as a “she.” I think that Kiedis was having a hard time connecting to people, therefore, he considered LA to be the only thing he was actually comfortable being himself with.
The song has a more positive take on life. Watsky talks about how all of his hard work will pay off and that he will have time to rest once he has moved on. He accepts that he cannot live forever, so he is going to make the most of it while he is here. The song is about worrying what you can control, and to stop dwelling on situations that are out of your hands. The track incorporates a chorus that really ties in well with the rest of the track.”
These parts generally do not change throughout the section. It has a chaotic yet organized feel, with each part seemingly playing at its own pace, but also remaining connected with each other. It is a strange and frenetic sound that makes one feel stressed and on edge, like the protagonist of the aria. At 0:55, this minimalist swelling stops and the vocalist starts singing in a passionate and guilt-ridden fashion. The vocalist’s character is J. Robert Oppenheimer, who is slowly becoming aware that his work on the atomic bomb will be used negatively.
Cole follows every pain filled verse with a hook that vastly differs in emotion. His voice has lost all of it’s resent filled fury and the listeners are left with whimpers of defeat. He cries “All we wanna do is take the chains off... All we wanna do is be free”, over and over again. The only notable change throughout the song comes during the third verse when J.cole seems to calm down.
In some parts he also uses ironic phrases to help visualize the description being made. Tone shifts when the woman singer comes in
Repetition creates a dominating recurrence when it repeats the chorus mentioned previously, “I’d like to make myself believe that planet Earth turns slowly/ It’s hard to say I’d rather stay awake when i'm asleep/ ‘Cause everything is never as it seems/ ‘When I fall
From beginning to end, I am captivated by the music. Each element brings a unique character to the overall piece. The music takes the listener on a suspenseful journey. The arrangement of the song gives me a visual of someone stumbling upon a dark forest and begins to hear the fast-approaching movement of something behind them. The pairing of several melodic phrases throughout the composition adds to the sense of chaos and turbulence.
For example in stanza five there are two rhyming triplets. The tone of the poem also changes accordingly to the action in the poem, the rhyme, rhythm and measure. At first skeptical, almost discouraging, but after it gains hope. At a point that hope shatters and the tone becomes grave and sorrow. The poem as well as the charge end quietly in a plain stanza, the last stanza which different but still inspirational.
Usually, when people express their beliefs on what the most important desideratum or possession in life is, they state whatever it is that they are lacking at the time. Whether it is health, love, beauty, shelter, family - when individuals think about what is essential, it is typically unavailable to them at that moment; that is why the most important necessity in life is self dependence. During these circumstances where we feel something is missing, we try to make others improve the issue and we often overlook that we have the power to make the change. However, being able to rely on oneself to solve problems no matter how minor or major will lead to a sense of triumph and true happiness. The song The Man In The Mirror by Michael Jackson
There is a recitative-style introduction before the first verse as well as at the end of the song played by a digital sounding harp. This is sung
The song I choose for this assignment is, "I Want a Little Sugar in My Bowl" composed by Nina Simone. The original version by Bessie Smith is considered a hokum, due to its humor and sexual and innuendos. The adapted version by Nina Simone revised the meaning of the song to be more aligned with romantic longing rather than sexual intimacy. As a result, I am better able relate to the message of this song. The reason being, is that I currently desire to be in a serious romantic relationship.
The verse and bridge of a song can be incredible but if the chorus is weak then it will throw the whole song off. The main purpose of a chorus is to tie the first and second verse together, in a sense it is the middle part of the “story”. A chorus does not need to rhyme but most do because most artists want their songs to get stuck in your
