From being a poor boy, in a poor country, to becoming America's first secretary of the treasury, Alexander Hamilton had a very intense and intriguing life. He had a huge part in shaping America and made a tremendous contribution to achieving its independence, like many in his time, but what sets him apart is in his writing. His writings caught the eye of many Americans, including President George Washington, and earned him a ticket to the New World and his new profound fame. From his dreadful childhood to his many accomplishments, to the duel that was his downfall, Hamilton arose out of nowhere and made a name for himself in The New World. Alex grew up with two parents, James and Rachel, and an older brother. That however changed at the age of ten, when his father found out his mother's secret, she was married to another man, who locked her in a prison for quite some time and when she was released her and her Mother fled without looking back upon what they had just left behind. With the news of this spreading, it was hard for James to find work, the family became in debt and abandoned the family. He lived alone in the West Indies and was only rarely heard from, neither Alex, his mother or his brother ever saw him in person again. Not long after his departure, both Alex and his mother fell very sick, overtime Alex got better but his mother didn’t, she died in 1768. Alex and his thirteen-year-old brother then moved in with his cousin, Peter Lytton whom in July of 1769, committed suicide. Alex and James Jr. the two boys with no family on the island, now lived with a friend and his father.
