The plot of Hamilton the musical is the life of Alexander Hamilton and how he rose in power and fell. Hamilton came to America as an immigrant from the Caribbean. He learns how politics in America works and tries to make a name for himself in the states. While he was trying to make a name for himself, there was a war going on in America. A revolution where the states were going to become independent from the king. During this war he was able to befriend the soon to be president of America, George Washington. The musical represents four musical genres. Musical, metahistorical, biopic and war. The reason it is considered a Musical: Because the actors sing throughout the play. The reason it’s also a biopic is because it is specifically about the history of Alexander Hamilton. How he came to America, found love, rose to power and died. Lastly, war because it talks about the war of the American Revolution, when America was trying to separate from the King of the United Kingdom. Academic history and popular history are both very different things. Academic history is what you learn from textbooks or in school. An example would be if you take American history in high school, you will learn about the American Revolution, the Battle of Yorktown and the Federalist papers. Popular history is different, but popular history is learnt through things like music, video games, movies or musicals. Popular history is more personal, in a way since you don't have a person telling you about the history and are being forced to learn it. But you can choose to learn it and take in the information. He instead just warns them that he will win the war against them and they’ll come back to being a part of the king’s nation. Singing and dancing is a very fun and entertaining way to talk about King George addressing the colonists. Hamilton, the musical, has historical accuracy throughout the play. An example is where they talk about where Alexander Hamilton was born. He was actually born in Charlestown, Nevis in the West Indies and his mother, Rachel Fawcett, was actually married to another man prior to meeting Hamilton's father. They, of course, do make mistakes. An example is when Hamilton dies in a duel in 1800. Hamilton did not die from a duel until 1801 since there was a war going on in 1800. Another example of historical inaccuracies is Alexander Hamilton’s stance on slavery, saying “Raise a glass to freedom, something they can never take away” while in actuality, Hamilton dabbled in the purchase of slaves, never even stating these views to begin with. Last example is when John Adams becomes president, in the play, it states that John Adams fired Hamilton, despite their obvious feelings toward each other, Adams did not fire Hamilton as the musical
