III. Under close examination of Psycho’s Content, Hitchcock changed society’s view on several controversial issues.
IV. Although this 1960’s masterpiece has historically changed the horror genre, close examination of Psycho’s content on sexuality, morality, and violence illustrates how the film has changed Hitchcock’s audience and, in turn, changed society’s outlook on these issues. A. Thomas Leitch, “Hitchcock Without Hitchcock,” explains how over time movies lose their effect of scariness.
i. Due to this horror cultural shift, Slasher and horror movies become acceptable, if not respectful. ii. Repetition can cause a great sense of immunity and how media shifts our terror. As a real life connection, one needs to look no further than the mass shootings and malls to see how society is becoming numb to the broadcasts. iii. i. Quite obvious the two characters are having an afternoon rendezvous. ii. This image is not common to modern day however sexual encounters then outside of marriage were rarely seen and often frowned
