1. For this topic paper, I chose the Hitchcock movie ‘Strangers on a Train’. Warner Brothers released Strangers on a Train in the summer of 1951. This movie takes place mainly in Washington D.C. and Metcalf. Guy Haines and Bruno Antony are the two principle characters.
2. Conflict between Guy and Bruno is continuous throughout the film and starts in the opening scene where Guy Haines accidentally taps Bruno Antony's foot when attempting to cross his legs after boarding the train. The foot tap leads to Bruno striking up a simple conversation. At first, the conversation is introductory small talk that boosts Guy's ego just a bit. Guy tell Bruno that he is quite the reader; Bruno acknowledges and invites Guy to ask him anything because he has the answers ...he even has the news about people that he does not even know. Bruno also implies that he knows all about who wants to marry whom when his wife gets her divorce. Bruno's harangue infuriates Guy and proposes that Bruno reads too much. Bruno backs off a bit, and expresses that he always opens his mouth too much which leads to Guy expressing that he has the jitters because he is stopping off in his hometown to meet with his soon to be ex-wife. Since Guy cannot get a seat in the dining room, Bruno extends the invitation to join him in his private room for lunch. Once in the private room Bruno's ulterior motives are reveled; the scene starts off with Bruno talking about how much he and his father hate one-another; Bruno wished his father dead. In an attempt to lure Guy into his evil plan, Bruno insinuates that Guy was marrying the senators daughter to advance his career, and that Guy's soon to be adulterous ex-wife played around a lot.
