Poetry Analysis All over the world there are diverse authors who want to represent their feeling in the various types of writings. One of the most frequently used classifications of writing can include poetry; a composition that represents a feeling on a specific topic that is meant to be read or listened to. As stated before, there are hundreds of different poems, yet two of my favorite poems can include “The Tyranny of a Nice or Suburban Girl” by Sarah J. Liebman and “Autobiography in Five Short Chapters” by Portia Nelson. Although both of these poems possess powerful tones as well as structures that are able to pass the meaning of the poem to the reader, the two of them are very different when it comes to figurative language.
For many centuries, poetry has been at the center of communication and expression. Poetry has progressed, and styles have changed. However, there are some concepts in poetry that have not been transformed; every single poem contains a theme that readers can analyze. Authors will use different methods to make sure that their themes are understood. For example, authors could use a variety of imagery, repetition, structure, and history to achieve their theme.

The Beat Generation wanted change because of this conformity, by rebelling against the rules and structure of society. In the text, Kesey implies that conformity is damaging because he believed that conformity and mental institutions negatively impact the patients by destroying their self-esteem, while many in the ‘50s and early ‘60s believed mental institutions helped someone become a normal member of society. In the novel, the aides constantly help the patients with simple tasks. In the beginning of the book, the Nurse orders that the aides help Chief shave, “And since it is
“Beyond Beats and Rhymes” Summary This movie was a broad discussion about hip-hop music (or more specifically gangster rap) and what kind of social issues the music not only showcases but seems to promote. The producer of this film, Byron Hunt, interviewed people involved in all aspects of the hip-hop industry, including famous rappers, to try to get to the bottom of this. Some of the most prominent issues discussed in the film were the over-sexualization of women, gun violence, and anti- homophobic attitudes. Hunt would ask those involved in the industry about why they think these themes are so prevalent.
Songs like “Sweet Little Sixteen” and “School Days” by Chuck Berry exemplified the rebellious attitude of the sixties. The lyrics were about girls going against the dress code and how school was a drag. Young people wanted to rebel simply because they could. An outstanding example of the youth culture was the beat movement. Beatniks were a group of artistic social activists who stressed to young people that they should practice spiritual action and reject materialism.
Classic Rap The first ‘commercially successful rap song’ (Genius) was Rapper’s Delight by the Sugarhill Gang in 1979. This music style had shaped the future of those in the 1950’s setting a platform of the music to come. Rock and Roll couldn’t have taken flight without the popular artist of the time including the widely known “King of Rock” Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, The Beatles and many more bands from England and America. Rock and Roll transformed society in the 1950’s causing a separation in tradition from the older generation and the newer generation known as the “Beat Generation”, according to website ushistory.org. It received its name from the style of the music and the newly formed dance moves arising.
Chapter 4 from Dr. Clay’s book, “The Hip-Hop Generation Fights Back” begins to talk about how hip-hop music usually acts as a center for social protests between today’s youth, just like the rhythm and blues or early rock and roll as well as folk music does for many youth protesters from the 1960s. Music imitates the lifestyles and values of the adolescence ones, which is why it has been a valuable classifying tool for many social and political protests. Chapter 4 introduces how the youth campaigners understood hip-hop as a genuine youth culture in most of its commercialized forms. An outside audience will find hip-hop music to be very powerful in the way it shows what a young person of color is in historical instants.
The block parties, graffiti art, rapping, disc jockeying and diverse forms of dancing built Hip Hop by the black youth. They expressed their feelings, thoughts, but most importantly the problems they had to face, which were related to their race, gender and social positions. The rights that were given to black people during and after the Civil Rights Movement left the following generations at a lack of how to continue the fight for black rights. Hip Hop gave them this platform and with the usage of black nationalism, Hip Hop can explore the challenges that confront American-Americans in the post-Civil Rights Movement era. In the 1990’s Hip Hop lived its prime, sub genres started to appear and famous groups, MCs led the whole community, providing a voice to a group of people trying to deliver their message.
In addition, they both use questions to get the readers thinking and feeling of how it is to be lonely. Eliot and Ginsberg both display the theme of how lonely it is to not be able to be yourself in a time or place it is not accepted. The differences in these poems lie in the way the authors that Ginsberg uses imagery and Eliot uses personification. In “A Supermarket in California,” Ginsberg is using imagery to give the reader a way of being there thus creating an emotional attachment to the idea of loneliness. In the lines, 19-20, “The trees add shade to shade, lights out in the houses, we’ll both be lonely.”
