One of the strongest connections to a Biblical reference I found to exist within the play references multiple passages in the bible including; Luke 12.36, which states the Lord "cometh and knocketh", and again in Revelation 3.20, we are told that Christ will "stand at the door and knock". As well as, Leviticus 26.36, where we are told that God "will send even a faintness" into the hearts of sinners, and "the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them.". All of which relate to the dialog used in Act 2 Scene 2; Macbeth “Whence is that knocking? How is't with me, when every noise appals me? (2.2.72-3)”. This quote, being said after having murdered King Duncan is used to show his paranoia of the judgement to come for the sins he has committed. There are plenty more direct connections between the script and passages in the bible, that I could use to prove that the majority of the language used in this play stems or was formed from a base of Christian beliefs, but those are a few specifically important examples found in the first few scenes of Macbeth that show the foundation of Christian beliefs that the play was set upon. …show more content…

This sets a foundation for the storyline to play around with different symbols and myths as a way to allow the audience to connect with the story and characters through the humanity thats with in the story.
